Professor Dr Michael Hofman
FRACP FAANMS (VIC)

Professor Michael Hofman is a nuclear medicine physician and physician-scientist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology, University of Melbourne. He is Director of the Prostate Theranostics and Imaging Centre of Excellence, and leads the PET/CT clinical program at Peter Mac. He previously completed a fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

Michael has led a broad interest in clinical and translational research in cancer imaging and theranostics, from first-in-human studies of novel radiotracers to multicentre randomised trials. His work includes landmark Australian-led studies such as proPSMA and TheraP, which have helped shape international practice in prostate cancer imaging and radioligand therapy.  Michael was an inaugural scientific member of the Australasian Radiopharmaceutical Trials Network (ARTnet) which helped faciliate these trials.

Michael was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (FAHMS) and a Fellow of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (FSNMMI). Michael was recognised as a 2025 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, and was one numerous prestigious awards including the 2025 The Ramaciotti Medal for Excellence in Biomedical Research, 2025 University of Melbourne Marles Medal for research impact in Health and Medical Sciences, 2025 RACP Foundation Eric Susman Prize and 2024 Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) Saul Hertz MD Award. He also serves in editorial roles for international journals including the Journal of Nuclear Medicine and European Urology.
